I ran across someone on Twitter I began to follow, whose profile name is “Hope Dealer.” I saw it and thought the name was “dope,” pun intended! Seriously though, isn’t that the person we all fiend for? Someone who will deliver hope to us and let us know that everything is going to be all right especially in our darkest times, or when we feel as though the nightmare for a past experience will never end.
Hope, just like love, truth, repentance, and understanding mentioned in my previous four blogs, further promotes healing. To become hopeless is to begin the countdown of despair to depression to death.
This is where you and I come in. One way of bringing healing to a person’s life is to give them hope. This is where the bearer of the good news, the bearer of love, and the bearer of life can make an impact. I know first hand how this is true. When I share my story through spoken word poetry, sermons or counseling with anyone who is going through something even similar to what I have already gone through in the past, I can see their eyes light up, joy permeate (even if for a short time), and peace saturate them.
My friend Jozanne Marie is someone I would categorize as a “hope dealer.” She is a woman of God, a wife, a poet, and a powerful storyteller. Her one-woman show called “Beautiful The Solo Play” (www.beautifulthesoloplay.com) is the package she delivers throughout the year that brings hope and healing to many people’s lives (as a matter of fact she is “on the block” this Saturday in LA). She tells her story of experiencing violation and abuse as a young girl and painting a vivid picture of its impact on her life. The same story told by many people in America still paralyzed by the shame and disgust of this evil. She also tells the story of redemption, of restoration, and of forgiveness all fueled by Jesus. She powerfully shares how God took her from hurt and confused, to bitter, to FREE!
She tells a story that is raw, creative, and authentic. You will take the roller coaster ride with her and finally ending with this injection of hope and inspiration. Anyone who’s ever lived through a violation or an assault of any kind without closure or healing can leave one step closer to both. If it sounds like a commercial for her play, well…it is. I believe in the power of her story and ministry. So if you can, get the info from the links above and go see it. It just may change your life.
But your story can be just as powerful! Your story can bring hope too! If you want to bring healing to another person’s life, lead with love, tell them the truth in love, help them get understanding, and give hope through your story….especially if that story involves the redemption and restoration of Jesus.
I can’t help but tell mine! I want to be a “hope dealer” too!
